Fonterutoli is
located on the hills
overlooking the Val
d'Elsa and is home
to one of the most
prestigious wineries
in Tuscany. Here
Marchesi Mazzei,
owners
of the Castle
Fonterutoli
since 1435, are
dedicated to
winemaking for 24
generations,
producing wines that
are known and
appreciated by fans
around the world.
Il Borgo di
Fonterutoli, the
village that
surrounded the
medieval castle
remains inhabited
and indeed the
Mazzei family
maintain their
family villa here.
Many of the houses
on the main road of
the Borgo - the very
ancient pilgrim
road, the Via
Francigena, have
been converted to
wonderfully
appointed apartments
and B&B rooms.
The old church in
the main piazzella
remains an active
church, and one of
the buildings has
been converted into
a splendid enoteca
where we can arrange
tastings of the
wines produced on
the Mazzei estate.
The Casa
Fonterutoli,
however, which sits
across from the
Mazzei villa, is
unique.
Located in a
separate building,
it is a fully
independent and self
catering luxury home
with lounge, dining
room, kitchen, 4
bedrooms and 3
bathrooms.
