HISTORICAL MANSION - The Castle of Verrazzano is located on a hilltop in the Chianti Classico area, the first grape growing and wine producing area in the world to be determined by an official proclamation, made by the grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici in 1716. Its high position, over the Greve valley, was once of strategic-military importance; today it is possible to easily overlook the vineyards which fan out across the slopes to the edges of the wood further down the valley. The castle was an etruscan then a roman settlement before becoming the property of the Verrazzano family in the VIIth century.
The borders of the estate have remained unaltered for more than 1.000 years. 42 hectares acres of vine are planted at altitude ranging from 260 to 380 meters a.s.l. in Verrazzanos limestone-rich and stony soil. Wines produced here are among the best in Tuscan tradition.
It is possible to stay overnight on the Verrazzano estate in the recently restored farmhouse, the "Foresteria Casanova ", which is approx 1 km from the Castle.
There are two independent apartments and 7 double rooms, two of which have the possibility of adding a third bed. All the rooms are furnished in typical rustic Tuscan style, each with private bathroom and there is a common room for reading and relaxation.
Outside there is a patio with tables and chairs to enjoy the fresh country air.
There are many beautiful trekking trails on the estate.
From Monday to Friday at 11 am it is possible to book a guided visit of the gardens and historic ageing cellars followed by wine tasting and lunch.
