Il Castello di Lamole, half way between Florence and Siena, sits amidst the rolling hills in the southern part of the Chianti district.  This large and rambling structure, parts of which date to 1000 AD, dominates a ridge, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and woods of chestnut and larch.  The beautiful Tuscan towns of Castellina, Greve and Panzano are an easy drive or bike trip.

At one time, the Castle played a role in the defense of the Florentine Republic during its long wars with Siena and other enemies.  Now it is home to the gregarious and talented Marasco family - artists and musicians - who have dedicated themselves to the restoration and refurbishment of the Castello.

There are 9 nicley furnished apartments all done in the simple, tasteful style common to the Chianti region.  The largest can accommodate 4 people, but most are furnished for 2 or 3.  All have fully equipped kitchens and lounges and clean, well-designed, even stylish  bathrooms, a few have fireplaces, which crackle with a comforting fire in the cool spring and autumn months.  All the apartments have private gardens or terraces with comfortable outdoor furniture, and all guests have ready access to the grounds and gardens of the Castello and to its swimming pool.  The views from the apartments and grounds are gorgeous.

The Marascos also run a lovely little restaurant at the Castello - the Aia dei Canti - where they serve high quality Tuscan style meals.  In the surrounding area, there are many other fabulous restaurants, and should you want to cook for yourself, markets that offer the best that Tuscany has to offer.
