Description

La Posta Vecchia, Rome is a former residence of he world's first billionaire, John Paul Getty.  A palatial seaside villa located within an easy 30-minute drive of Fiumicino airport and a thirty minute drive of the Port of Civitavecchia.

La Posta Vecchia, now a 5 star luxury hotel, features 9 double rooms and 8 suites, all named after notables who have stayed at the villa, as well as a meeting room, spa,  indoor swimming pool, private beach, archaeological Roman museum, and, for those with money and no time, a helipad.  The quiet guest rooms feature beautiful views of the sea and its Mediterranean gardens.

Cultural and sports activities close to the property: horse back riding, golf, tennis, tours of Etruscan and Roman sites are also provided by La Posta Vecchia, Rome.

The villa was built around 1640 for the Orsini family over the remains of the Roman town of Alsium. In 1960 it was bought by Jean Paul Getty, who restored it to its ancient splendor, adding furniture acquired from princely homes in all parts of the world.

During the restoration works, the ruins of a large Roman villa were uncovered and these now form the core of the small archeological museum in the hotel’s basement. The present owner bought the villa from the American industrialist and re-converted the hotel to its original function of refined hospitality, retaining intact the treasures collected by J. Paul Getty.

The Cesar Restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine with ingredients from La Posta Vecchia's own organic vegetable garden.  The restaurant offers romantic outdoor seating with beautiful views of the sea.
