The Buca di Bacco sits right on the beach at Positano, and with its great comforts, many amenities, and general cheerfulness has justifiably earned a great reputation. Considering its location and overall quality, it is also reasonably priced - and therefore in constant demand (book early!).
A large, airy terrace fronts the beach, so you can enjoy a drink while watching the general scene unfolding before your eyes. The oldest and most expensive part, the Buca Residence, was an old seaside mansion at the dawn of the 19th century. The guest rooms are well furnished, most with small balconies facing the sea (the finest accommodations are six superior rooms with full seafront terraces).
Buca di Bacco, a fascinating and curios name rich in tradition and with a story behind it. Literally "Buca" means tavern or cellar and "Bacco" is the god of wine Dyonissus or Bacchus of Greek mythology.
The story begins in the early '900s, when a group of artists and intellectuals, in that period frequent visitors of Positano, gave this name to the cellar of a restaurant at the time used as a romantic and exclusive dance night club. The Buca di Bacco today looks very different from what it did at the beginning of the century.
The Hotel to which the old dance club gave origin, offers today modern facilities and fine service, always keeping up with the changing times. That which is never changed over the years is the passion and care that passed on from father to son, renews and creates that atmosphere of warm welcome and hospitality so loved by guests.
