The Hotel Talao is situated in Corso
Mediterraneo, the main avenue running through
modern Scalea, directly overlooking the beach
lapped by the crystalline blue sea of the
Riviera dei Cedri, the splendid stretch of
coastline along the Tyrrhenian in Calabria
running from the Golfo di Policastro to the
seaside villages of the province of Cosenza.
The coastal area of Scalea in proximity to the
hotel features ample sandy pebbled beaches and
the renowned and splendid reef with the rock of
Ajnella near the water-line and shoal of
Giumenta, emerging only at low tide. The
coastline opens up with enchanting grottoes and
caverns that are an absolute must see: the
Tras’ e jesce (enter and exit) or the Bacio,
a natural tunnel emerging on the tiny beach of
Jditale; the Grotta della Pecora, the
prettiest, whose name derives from the rock in
the shape of a sheep's head, its crystalline
water taking on shades and colors of
undescribable beauty.
The historic center of Scalea is just a 3 minute
walk from the hotel, with its picturesque alleys
made of ramps and stairs, and countless sites of
the town's ancient history, such as the Medieval
Palazzo dei Principi, the Church of San Nicola
in Plateis dating back to the 8th century, and
the towers of Cimalonga and Talao, the latter in
the vicinity of the hotel (hence the name),
characterizing the landscape along the littoral
of Scalea.
The Hotel Talao is the ideal solution among the
3 star hotels in Scalea, whether for a seaside
vacation featuring relaxation and entertainment
or as a starting point
during any
season for itineraries and tours
discovering the wild and luxuriant nature of the
Parco Nazionale del Pollino (just a few
kilometers from the hotel), along the splendid
shoreline of the Riviera dei Cedri, and its
towns rich in history and traditions along the
riviera (Maratea, Sapri, Praia a Mare, San
Nicola Arcella, Diamante, etc.) and heights of
Pollino (Tortora, Aieta, Orsomarso, Papasidero,
Morano, Civita, Altomonte, etc.); not to mention
the savory wine and food traditions of Calabria,
of which many gourmets praise the prestigious
DOP and IGP classified products (nduja
and small peppers, various sausages and cured
meats - salsiccia and sopressata, capocollo and
pancetta, caciocavallo silano, extra-virgin
olive oil from Bruzio and Lametia, bergamot and
citrons, etc.).
At the end of a day dedicated to the sea or
excursions, enjoy the stupendous sunset on the
terrace of the Hotel Talao, or a pleasant stroll
through the animated alleyways of ancient
Scalea, sampling ice-cream or a citron liqueur
(typical specialties), or spend the evening in
one of the lively nightspot locales in modern
Scalea. |
